For a child, having access to the internet is a good thing; having unsupervised access to the internet is not. There are things online that a young child should not come in contact with. And this is where the parental control tool iWebFilter comes in. It will let you limit the amount of time your child spends online, it will let you specify which sites your child can access, it will block out sites that are inappropriate for a young child, and it will keep logs of what your child does on the computer.

The iWebFilter installation file is only 3.1MB in size; getting it onto your computer will only take a moment. Run the 3.1MB file and a simple setup wizard will help you install iWebFilter. Please note that you will be asked to restart your system once the installation completes. When your computer boots up, there will be an iWebFilter icon in the system tray and filtering will be enabled by default.

To access the iWebFilter Control Panel just double click the aforementioned system tray icon. On the left hand side there are buttons for accessing the application’s Settings, for creating an Internet Timetable, for viewing the Logs and Charts, and more. The interface is fairly simple to comprehend and you should not have a problem with that.

Adult sites are a major source of concern for parents. The nice thing about iWebFilter is that it will block access to such sites right out of the box. Without playing with any of the settings, iWebFilter stops Internet Explorer and Firefox from accessing adult sites.

The application comes with a built-in database of pre-selected forbidden websites that can be customized. The application also lets you create a list of blocked websites (access to these sites will not be provided) and a list of trusted websites (sites on the list will not be blocked by iWebFilter). The application also uses certain patterns to identify and block potentially harmful websites.

iWebFilter can prove to be a useful tool in keeping harmful and inappropriate content away from your child.

Pros

iWebFilter features a very simple interface. The tool will block access to harmful websites, limit the amount of time a child can spend online, block out inappropriate words, keep a log of what the child does, and email it to you. Access to iWebFilter can be password protected.

Cons

Free to use for a trial period of 14 days. Failed to block adult sites when using Chrome (worked with IE and Firefox though).
